100+ POUNDS GONE FOREVER = YAY!!!!!!!!!

Well - I had my 6-month post-op consult this afternoon. I will officially be 6 months post-op roux-en-y gastric bypass on the 28th October. I weighed in today and was 325 pounds - down from my highest 438 pounds - so do the math WLS PEOPLES!!! 113 POUNDS GONE FOREVER!!!!!!

Not to shabby for less than 6 months post-op. I was so happy and astonished. I say thank you to everyone for all the support here. You all have played a part in my success thus far and I hope to play a part in your success as well throughout the coming weeks, months & years!

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass A type of gastric bypass procedure which combines restrictive and malabsorption techniques - meaning, it reduces the amount of food a patient can comfortably eat (restriction), and also reduces the amount of calories that can be digested in the small intestine (malabsorption). This combination of bariatric methods leads to greater weight loss and the roux-en-y procedure is seen as one of the best ways to treat clinically severe obesity. Thanks Debbie - I'm so excited! I wrote the following on my surgeon's Yahoo site the other day:

I finally feel very optimistic that I am well on my way towards conquering my food addiction and successfully loosing weight after so many years of.... well... to be perfectly honest = failure. I feel optimistic that I can make a success out of this WLS thang! And I'm excited about life for the first time in years.

I don't really work out at all now. I've been told to try some weight/resistance training though. My exercise physiologist told me that I should buy some dumbells. I told her that it'd be like the bumb belle buying dumbbells - all the other shoppers would be horribly mystified by the whole thing LOL

Teasing... But anyway - I do walk which is good cardio exercise. I love to walk actually and try to get a good 30 - 45 minute walk in 4 - 5 days a week. It's been working so far.
