Default Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) MsJacquiiC Started This Thread

A tummy tuck, technically known as abdominoplasty, can be performed in several different manners depending upon the individual's shape and condition. This is common for both women and men. The two basic techniques used are the Mini Tummy Tuck and the Full Tummy Tuck. The procedure that is best for your individual needs will be determined during the consultation, when you will also be assessed as to the probable outcome.

An abdominoplasty is a surgical solution for excess tummy fat, skin, and tightening of the abdominal (recti and sometimes oblique) muscles. It is unlike “Tummy Tuck Jeans” or other camouflages. Reviewing Tummy Tuck pictures can help one understand realistic surgical outcomes and the capabilities of a particular abdominoplasty surgeon.

The best candidate for tummy tuck surgery is a person who is stabilized at, or slightly above the desired weight, but who is still bothered by a protruding abdomen. Extreme or rapid weight loss sometimes causes overhanging excess skin for which the only alternative is a Tummy Tuck. Tummy tuck can also be used for those who have made serious efforts without success to lose weight. These abdominoplasty candidates should discuss their options thoroughly with a board certified plastic surgeon.

For the first day following surgery, complete bed rest is recommended. Walking bent over is also advised during the first week. Sutures are removed within two weeks. There will be some scarring which may fade over time.

As with all cosmetic surgery, results will be rewarding if expectations are realistic. As with any surgery, there are some risks which your doctor will discuss with you.
