Hi Everyone!
I ran across this great article at the dLife website tonight. My husband is a Type 1
Diabetic, so I receive their newsletter. They also have a weekly TV show called "dLife" which is great to watch as well.
The article that caught my attention was called
"The 25 Lowest-Carb Fruits and Vegetables"
I was surprised that Watermelon (my favorite!) rated so well. I have always (jokingly) rationalized that it was due to the fact it is so full of water that it helped with my liquid intake!!
While I was in my weight loss phase, (I am a lap bandit) I followed a very low carb diet using fruits and vegies as my carbs. I wish I would have had this reference at that time, it would have made me consider a few of my food options a bit better.
Even if you are not Diabetic anymore or have never been a Diabetic, this is still powerful information to help us on our Journey... I hope it helps you!
A quick (and handy) print out reference can be found here at the following address....

See ya!

Diabetes Mellitus
|
 |
A disease that occurs when the body is not able to use blood glucose (sugar). Blood sugar levels are controlled by insulin, a hormone in the body that helps move glucose from the blood to muscles and other tissues. Diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not make enough insulin or the body does not respond to the insulin that is made. There are two main types of diabetes mellitus: Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.
All forms of diabetes have been treatable since insulin became medically available in 1921, but there is no cure. |
