Interesting Stuff About Protein Supplements
UNJURY? Update:
How long to use protein supplements?
From UNJURY Medial Quality Protein
We will answer the "how long?" question with two smaller questions:
Question 1: How long do I need protein? That's easy. You need to get at least 60 to 80 grams of (high quality) protein for the rest of your life. That's according to the National Academy of Sciences1 and the ASMBS1. Question 2: Can I get that much protein from food? Most people just can't. For example, to get 70 grams of protein from steak or chicken, you would need to eat 10 ounces of meat and that is the weight after you cook it and it shrinks -- so 13 ounces before cooking -- almost a pound! Or, you could eat 10 eggs a day to get 70 grams of protein. Conclusion: You probably need one to two servings of a quality whey protein supplement a day for the rest of your life, to maintain your weight and your general health: for example - one for breakfast, one between meals when you get hungry. Now that we have answered those questions, the next question is...
What if I don't get enough protein over time?
Answer: Insufficient protein over time is closely linked to: - failure to lose weight or maintain weight
- loss of muscle tissue
- reduced immune system function
- hair loss
In contrast, getting good / higher levels of protein are closely linked to: - successful weight loss
- successful weight maintenance
- good/normal immune system function
1 The Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences recommends 0.4 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. Example: if you weigh 200 lbs, 0.4 grams times 200 lbs = 80 grams of protein.
2 The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommends 60 to 80 grams per day.

Protein provides 4 calories per gram and is found in foods like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, beans, nuts, and tofu.
Proteins are an essential human nutrient, obtained from both plant and animal foods. Though their greatest commercial use is in food products, they are also employed in adhesives, plastics, and fibres. |
