Hello all. My name is Melissa and I am 35 years old. I am married but with no children....yet. I just received approval for my roux en y procedure from my insurance company and my surgical date is November 15th.

A little background on me, I have been overweight my entire life. I can remember having to shop in the husky kids section when I was little and I was wearing adult sizes long before all my little friends were. Like many I have been trying for years to loose weight. My first diet was at the tender age of 12. I lost a few pounds here and there but nothing ever stuck. My current weight is 336lbs. I have been researching bariatric surgery for years. I finally feel like i am at a point in my life where I am able financially and medically to do this. I have an amazing husband and wonderful group of friends and family that are supporting me in my journey.

One thing that has kind of thrown me back a bit is the emotions I started to feel when I got notice of my approval and surgery date. It is now Friday and I got my approval only 2 days ago...but these past 2 days have been filled with tears. My tears are tears of joy, relief, excitement, and fear of everything that is unknown to me. I find myself frantically searching the internet trying to find out everything I need to find out about anything having to with WLS. The group I am going to for my surgery has an amazing host of resources for their patients...but I find myself wanting to know more and more. Which I assume is not a bad thing really. I think I need to step back and realize that I have educated myself enough and have faith that I can handle the challenges to come. I look forward to getting to know my way around this site.

Hi Melissa and welcome to The Journey! Great having you here.

Congrats on getting your surgery date - the 15th'll be here before you know it.

We do have a wonderful resource of WLS info here - Check the WLS Articles (http://wlsjourney.org/community-forums/wls-articles/) section.

I too had a lot of emotions prior to surgery, but after... I've had no issues at all - I've been feeling better about myself and life in general as a post-op - I think WLS is the best thing I've done for myself in years! -- I think you will feel the same as well.

Anyway - enjoy the site and again = Welcome!

Jacquii.
