Thanks. It's great to have a place to look for information, talk with others going through the same thing or a different choice and being part of the different journeys. It will help in possibly having an idea of the different hurdles that may be forth coming.
Well, my first visit with the Doctor, he wanted to know what I knew about this kind of procedure. I apparently knew a little more than the average person, however I knew, and he told me, I did not know everything. He gave me a website to read up on what they were doing (the three options), and advised me to do some more research.
Well, I'm going with what I think I'll comfortable with the sleeve process. I know I need help in weight loss (dang, I managed to quit smoking by myself). I'm not on any pre-op diets yet. That will be interesting, some places have you on a restrictive diet, and others, have you on weight loss drinks (optifast). I'll have no problem with the drink option.
My next appointment with the doc is in about three weeks (mother's having surgery the week before, so no can do). Apparently, with this visit, we will be talking a little more in depth about my choices. I think this is where he'll talk about pre-op diets and getting me into see the
dietician and psychologist.

A dietitian is an expert in food and nutrition; A person who has studied diet and nutrition at a college program approved by the American Dietetic Association, completed 900 hours of supervised practical experience accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation for Dietetics Education, and passed an exam to become an R.D.
Dietitians help promote good health through proper eating. They also supervise the preparation and service of food, develop modified diets, participate in research, and educate individuals and groups on good nutritional habits.
The term "nutritionist" is also widely used; however, the term nutritionist is not regulated as dietitian is. People may call themselves nutritionists without the educational and professional requirements of registered dietitians. |
