Weight Loss Stopped
Hi everyone, I sure could use some help with this.
Help!! I have mentioned that I am having problems keeping new foods down and that my diet is very limited. I have been doing pretty
Good with my weight loss....lost 65 pounds since 5/5/09. Here is my problem. I have stopped losing weight!! Seems like ever since I started physical therapy, 2 to 3 weeks ago, my weight loss came to a screeching halt. I am not cheating, I can't because of my stomach. Anyway, my weight seems to fluctuate 3-4 lbs daily??? I do have to say my clothes feel looser, and I feel a lot stronger, but this is really distressing meHas anyone come up against this problem. I feel so depressed. I know I should probably stay away from the scale, but I can't help it because I'm so worried now.
Any advise would sure be appreciated.
Thanks,
Blu

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
Hey Blu - I wouldn't stress it if I were you. Sometimes our bodies are adjusting to loosing so much weight so quickly that it needs a chance to take a bit of a breather so to say. I believe if you keep following the phases & rules Dr. Boyce, Krystal and Kelly have made for you -- I assume you had your surgery at Parkwest with either Dr. Boyce or Dr. Williams? -- then you'll do just fine. Think of the plateau kinda like the body saying, "WHOA! that's a lot of weight gone. Let me check myself" LOL -- That's what I think anyway...
Also - you might try increasing your protein intake, decreasing carbs as well - especially make sure you are getting the allotted amount - 60 grams protein per day I believe. You might call the office too and ask the Professionals for recommendations

Protein
|
 |
One of the three nutrients that provides calories to the body. Protein is an essential nutrient that helps build many parts of the body, including muscle, bone, skin, and blood. Protein provides 4 calories per gram and is found in foods like meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, beans, nuts, and tofu.
Proteins are an essential human nutrient, obtained from both plant and animal foods. Though their greatest commercial use is in food products, they are also employed in adhesives, plastics, and fibres. |

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
Hey Blu, I think all post ops have gone through the OMG I've stopped losing! thing..65 pounds in 4 months is amazing, and so focus on that! Your body definitely need to take a break sometimes..I think I stall for about 3 weeks. Like Jac said, keep gettin in your water, your protien and relax! I also was a puked (still am for that matter, although not as often) I used to throw up ALL THE TIME! I was stuck in the same foods too. That seems to ease up around 6 months, although I went very SLOW introducing new foods. I still don't eat bread, rice, beef, chicken breast, spicy or greasy food. Try to eat very slowly and chew very well!
My doctor's response to my question about puking all the time was "too much, or too fast"!

weight loss stopped
thanks Ya'll for your support and help with my problem. It eases my mind so much to know others have gone through this too. I have really been watching my protien and water and found I was slacking there. And I'm happy to say once I increased those, plus my exercise, the scale moved!!!!
As for weighing just once a week....I know that is a great idea, and I am going to really try, but I really have developed an obsession with my scale. All those years of doing anything to avoid it, and now I can't stay off it....LOL.
Thanks again, and happy days...
Blu

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
LOL @ the can't stay off the scale. I actually threw my scale away years ago - there was one point I'd lost a lot of weight on a supervised liquid diet - I weighed every single day and would stress something seriously whenever there was a stall or (god forbid) an increase in weight. So - I decided that I wouldn't put myself through that again - and thus far - I haven't went out and bought a scale - It's interesting actually - but I AM thinking of buying one soon perhaps IDK yet.
But anyway - great post Liz - I know we do sometimes focus on the current weight rather than the total amount and yeah- 65+ pounds in 4 months is amazing Blu!

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
hey blu!! you are amazing!! you have lost more weight than i have and we had surgery in the same month. I only lost 40.. Don't give up. . I remember the doc told me that I would hit a wall then I would have to do more activites , eat better and drink more water. Maybe the scale is actually hurting you? It is making you depressed and depression is not a good thing. Depression causes people to eat what they shouldn't and it will rob you of your energy to get out there and enjoy life. Just a thought.

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
What is happening is your gaining muscle mass losing inches technical not pounds I did this for a while. You can restart the weight loss by going back to basics to the foods at the beginning or very near the beginning then slowly add the other back. I started mine by replacing some foods with yogurts or light soup that are very low in calories. I still get my proteins I need but I don't eat a lot of meat but more in the line of dried beans which I cook with smoked turkey wings it's very low in fat and full of fiber.
The hypothalamus has a set point that has plateaus and you might have reach one just have to work past it. Don't let it get you down. Increase your water intake which will help pull andy salt out of you system making you lose the weight remember your suppose to be driving at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day and it's excellent for your skin. If you lose your weight to fast you look like saggy dog

Excellent information and advise Deborah!
I too sometimes suppliment a meal with a cup of lowfat, sugar-free yogurt. 80 calories for one meal is nice and filling as well. Anyway - thanks for the post

Re: Weight Loss Stopped
So I have the same problem now, I have lost 60 pounds in 10 weeks and now I am sitting around 225. I have two eating meals a day and the rest is liquids be it protein shake or water. I have also finally started to go work out so I am hoping to lose more that way. good to see I am not the only one.
